LinuxHardware.org has a very good article on running Linux with the new Intel 875P chipset. Why would you want to do that, well, because its the new 800MHz FSB. That means it supports the new Pentium 4.30GHz CPU with the same bus speed and hyperthreading. Yeah 800MHz on the FSB, or as the article more aptly puts it, \" 200MHz quad-pumped FSB which equates to 800MHz of processor to memory speed or 6.4GB/s of data throughput\". Talk about some computing mojo, thats some serious cycles.
As the article details there are some issues with the current kernels that are shipped with distros. Compiling their own they were able to get things working but it was a bit of a challenge. Considering that this is a brand new board thats not surprising and of course better support is there in each kernel rev and patch.
I wont personally be buying one of these anytime soon because I always get the 2 gens ago cheapo stuff. However its good to know its there and its solving some bus bottleneck issues (and it will be on my availability list after a year or so when its old news).
