ICANN tells Verisign to pull the plug on SiteFinder wildcard crap

I missed this late last week but ICANN did respond to the Verisign SiteFinder debacle (where Verisign added wildcards so that everything in com, net and org will hit SiteFinder). Basically ICANN says its crap (as the technical community has pointed out, it causes all kinds of technical problems such as proper mail bounce routing difficulties AND its plain old underhanded to route typos to Verisign just because they happen to control said DNS tlds) and ICANN says Verisign should cease and disist ASAP. Verisign also responded and basically states "well we need to look at all the facts before we shut it down". Yeah right. At least this entire incident should serve to wake people up to what jackasses the Verisign folks are and maybe, just maybe, some of their responsibility for tlds will someday be removed. Also check out http://www.icannwatch.org/ for lots more info included a nifty little "snooper" that Verisign is using to keep tabs on your Internet typos.
