Mouse Gestures, Another Reason Mozilla Kicks Arse

Tagged:
I know that details of mouse gestures have been posted here before but just wanted to reiterate since the latest rev is very solid. They have a stable branch that works great with Mozilla 1.4.x and a nightly build that works with Firebird. New prefs dialog and customization and a bunch of stuff. For the uninitiated mouse gestures are basically a series of click and directional movements that your mouse recognizes as a "gesture" and performs a specified operation based upon. For instance with the default setup of Mozilla and Optimoz Mouse Gestures you can go forward, back, reload, see source, cookies, meta tags, etc. You can also control the tabbed browsing experience (next, prev, new, etc). See the default mappings for specific examples. Mouse gestures alone are mighty cool and the project has come a long way, props to everyone involved. Mozilla with tabbed browsing, javascript control (no more *unwanted* pop ups, ever), cookie control, password manager, mouse gestures and so on is the ultra cool, the best browser period.

After careful research and usage studies, here are my results: Mouse gestures suck. They're the most aggravating horseshit around. Of all the reasons to use Mozilla based browsers, this here is not even on the list.

lol, man, i kinda like this post! its direct, its honest, its refreshing indeed. that said i dont think they suck, i find them sort of useful. i use the tab ones now and then (open a link in new tab, yes ctrl t and center button also do that - move between tabs) and i use the view source one. thats about it but its still cool.

I've gotta tell you, I like em. When I'm slouched as low as I can get in my office chair, feet propped up on the desk, only my mouse in reach - you can easily surf with just the mouse. No large movements just a little twitch every now and then... perfect for a lazy guy like me.

Re: Mouse Gestures, Another Reason Mozilla Kicks Arse

I've been looking to see why they annoy me so much, and I think that I've got it. I'm a nervous surfer. I am constantly futzing with my mouse. Highlighting words, paragraphs, just constantly playing with it. This does not work well with someone trying to figure out what I want them to do. Kinda like having voice-controlled faucets in the bathroom and the recognition software trying to figure out what to do when you're singing the National Anthem in the shower. So, I will amend my earlier statement thusly: Mouse gestures suck. For me.
