Mars orbiters Express and Odyssey confirm WATER: CNN

The European orbiter Mars Express and the American orbiter Mars Odyssey have double checked each others findings at the Martian poles and confirmed WATER ON MARS. Thats huge. That could definitely mean that life on Mars may yet be detected. See the linked CNN article for more   Europe probe detects Mars water ice: CNN

You know this is where reading so much damn science fiction gets in the way... I thought ice had been found on mars forever ago...

Re: Mars orbiters Express and Odyssey confirm WATER: CNN

I've read a few stories (I was of the same opinion) about this. I guess you can chalk it up to scientists always wanting more and more proof. They had never had any direct proof, especially about the white stuff on Mars' south pole. Most were pretty sure that the north pole had water ice. This was the first definitive observation of water ice (as opposed to guessing it was water ice and not frozen CO2).

The first actual scientific hypothesis of water was in 2002 (from one of these orbiters I think). This latest news is however pretty much considered the first actual proof. Well except for the obvious that the canals leading to the huge face must have been filled with water during the early period of the martians civilization.
