IBM sets Eclipse Free

The IBM open source/community IDE project, Eclipse, will be, well, released from IBM control. The Eclipse group conference is next week and the new direction of the group is expected to be announced. See the linked news.com article for more.   New age dawns at Eclipse

ya know, I am not sure that this is a good thing. Without knowing a single damned thing about the politics of developing this effort, I can say that eclipse is one of the most advanced open-source initiatives out there. I hope we don't lose the focus and control that got it there.

My read on it was IBM's attempt to de-corporate politicize it in order to try and get Sun to come around and finally back it. Haven't they gone through like a year and a half of negotiations regarding standards for it?
