There are many angles to the emerging story that Pakistan provided nuclear means (secrets, instructions, fissile material, etc) to North Korea, Libya and Iran (for now). Its not entirely clear yet that the state is directly involved, it *could* have been just some scientists acting on their own volition, but evidence is mounting that no individual could have pulled off the task without the knowledge and furthermore involvement of the state.
This includes as late as mid 2002 when it is reported (US spy satellites detected) that Pakistani military planes flew to North Korea to pick up missile parts. It seems North Korea needed help with developing nuclear weapons, and Pakistan needed help with missiles for delivery, so viola, the two exchanged technologies.
A new investigation is unfolding that may reveal much more about secret nuclear proliferation.
Some credit should be given to the United States for forcing the investigation, yet it is also disturbing that Pakistan is touted as one of the great allies in the "war on terror" and is part of the "coalition of the willing". (Pakistan of course was/is a pivotal ally in the Afghanistan action, but if the investigation bears out that Pakistan provided nukes to the "axis of evil" nations that it currently *seems* to point to then the more "imminent" threat might actually be Pakistan, maybe a "pre-emptive" strike is in order?)
