Screaming Penguin - Source Does Matter

The gruesome and horrific beheading of US "businessman" Nick Berg is surrounded by questions, rather than answers.

I dont personally accept any conspiracy in this death, but I must admit that some of the contradictions and anomalies (pointed out in the linked K5 article) are startling.

Hype and hysteria aside the case deserves a lot more attention than its getting and some real evidence and real answers. (My guess is its likely that Berg is dead, and that he was killed indeed by terrorists. That said though I dont think he was beheaded in the video. Accounts say that it looked spliced and staged and the audio is way off. The killers may have simply realized after they killed him that they could stage something shocking and get more mileage out of it.)

Some of the contradictions such as the spliced tape, the spliced audio, the clothing itself and clothing changes and so on definitely make it worth the while of the US government to investigate this matter further. Rather than a continued stance of denial and stonewalling the US government needs to learn (in this case and others) that providing real information and TRUTH will help their case and credibility in the long run (even if the US government has already lied in some minor way such as having Berg in custody. Some officials of the government say this is true, that the US did hold Berg, and some say it is false. Either way its not the FAULT of the government that he is dead, unless of course I am wrong and further culpability is borne out by the IMHO fanciful conspiracy.)

And (minor rant mode on here) people need to quit this nonsense about making Berg out to be a hero and or just an "innocent" man trying to "help Iraqis build their country" as President Bush stated. He was there to help HIMSELF. If he was there looking for work (a position I buy but the conspiracy theorists do not) then he was in it for GREED, not for the noble pursuit of helping Iraqis. This was a man who was told NOT to go to Iraq by the government and who was TOLD TO LEAVE but refused (by the current government position). This was Darwin at work, even without the government its not that difficult to ascertain that an American (named Berg carrying Israli papers no less, more fuel for the conspiracy) might be in DANGER and POSSIBLY GET KILLED in Iraq. In fact I would argue that he bears some responsibility for his OWN death (he didnt kill himself of course, and it was a heinous CRIME, but he should not have been in the situation in the first place). And that he bears some responsibility for stirring up more mess in the international affair. Berg and others like him need to heed to call of the state department that its not so safe to do business in Iraq and acknowledge that there mere presence in the region puts an extra burden on the "coalition" and the situation as a whole.
