The quest for the silver king

I will be out of town the next 3 days in search of Megalops atlanticus. I will be in my own boat for a few days and then, if that doesnt work, going with Captain Chet on Monday. Wish me luck and note that in my abscense the quality of stories posted on TotSP will likely go up. :) Pictures of the giant fish that I will surely catch will be posted here next week (yeah, quite a boast, if its a baby tarpon that ends up posted then go easy).

RE: The quest for the silver king

A fellow fisherman? That's great. Good luck to you and Capt. Chet. :-)

RE: The quest for the silver king

So jealous.... I hate fishing unless it is deep sea fishing. After reading about the fish, It sounds like it could be very interesting. Good luck and be safe.

RE: The quest for the silver king

When I was diving in Bon Aire got to swim with 5 4-5 foot tarpon. Have a good trip man bring some fish home.

RE: The quest for the silver king

Well, the quest is as yet unfullfilled. No tarpon, nada, zero, fricking none. Actually we really didnt make it out to where we expected to see Tarpon (sunshine skyway, egmont pass, etc) because the weather in St. Pete area was horrible for the entire three days I was there. Dont get me wrong, I fished, day and night I fished, but just closer in to the pass where my brother keeps his boat (closer to shelter in case). My friends and I caught ladyfish (one of em 5 lbs, poor mans tarpon indeed), jack crevalle (also some big ones, lots of jacks), trout and one single redfish. I hooked 5-6 mega snook, but got ZERO of them to the boat. That is more frustrating than anything. Two of them almost spooled me in a channel/pass. They went down current with a rushing tide and then turned and came back. One of them came back to within 10 feet of the boat after running out 500yards or so. He then jumped, winked at me, and SPIT OUT the spoon (with treble hooks, not sure how he did that). The way they felt I would say they were 15lb or so snook. But I get absolutely zero credit because I did not "catch" a one. I put us on some fish, but couldnt land any of the damn things. It was pouring rain and lots of wind at times, but we managed to stay out of the lightning and at night (We fished till 2-3 am a few days) it was acutally clear and calm. We did alright considering the conditions, but more reds, a few snook and a tarpon or two would have been nice. (PS. We did not go with Captain Chet, weather was too bad for him to take us, I am planning to head back down soon though to take a trip with him.)

I heard a few tarpons speaking of you

they were using words like looser, non-fisherman, limp D_ck, and a few others that are not fit to print. Being the good friend that you always accuse me of, I immediately stood up for you and told them that they were not being fair. After all, I explained that Charlie lives in Atlanta and since Tarpon do not migrate that far north, he was locationally handy-capped. Would you believe that after I said that, one of the little punk-juvie 'poons piped in something about location was not your only handy-cap..... then his words were drowned out by the laughter that ensued from that pod of bastards. I say you should make plans to come down here this season and show them who's boss. I know where they live and we can pay them a little visit and maybe leave a few of them with a handy-cap or two.

So, how's yer quest going?

What is the status of yer quest? you caught one of them bastards yet?

Blast from the past

Blast from the past MacGrudder! Good to hear from you. As to the quest, nope, haven't caught one, but haven't tried in a few years now either. Someday I'll get back at it.
