Linux companies as pawns in the real software battle

Sun mulls buying Novell. The word is that Sun is considering buying Novell, which owns SuSE now, in order to take aim at IBM, because IBM relies on SuSE to keep Red Hat in check. So are the days of our lives . . .

The thing I found really interesting, though, is that Sun's interest is ENTIRELY in SuSE. They even go on to say that none of Novell's other software assets even interest them in the least.

lol, I didnt note that, but you are correct, thats pretty telling aint it?

Kind of stupid since Novell only bought SuSE last year. Sun is a company in search of a product. What they really should do is liquidate their assets - divest it to the shareholders and just go away.

RE: Linux companies as pawns in the real software battle

ouch.

i think Sun HAS some pretty good products, they just suck at marketing and selling them. and when they do sell it they generally overcharge.

i am speaking of software also, they have quite a lineup of enterprise stuff.

when it comes to hardware sun plain kicks ass, but again, they waay overcharge (imho). i mean if i can buy 10 linux boxes for the price of one sun, i dont care if some of the linux boxes crash first.

that and at the end of the day, every damn time i install or work with solaris its used with BIND, Apache, Sendmail, and so on (and with Weblogic, Oracle and such as well, but almost never with Sun apps!).
