Linux.com has an intro to iptables that starts with the very basics and outlines a simple "open source" firewall. Its *very* introductory but its a good place to start for people just getting started with creating their own firewall. iptables: Creating an open source firewall

very timely. In the next few weeks, I'm going to add a pure firewall box to my network. looks like I could also get rid of my linksys thingy as well. thanks.
