Bring on the pr0n - .xxx domains are here

They have not actually approved .pr0n itself yet ;), but at least we now have ".xxx". Porn-friendly '.xxx' domains approved

"And I thought we as a nation would get nothing done under the second Bush administration."

Where in the hell is Ashcroft when we REALLY need him ;). (Insert your own Crisco joke here please.)

Ok so this is pretty funny, but whats NOT funny is that the reason we have .xxx is actually repressed "conservative" legislators pushed for it.

The original ICANN decision was that its not needed, you can put pr0n on another domain name, but conservative US politicians got quite upset when .xxx was originally denied.

Fred Upton, R-Mich., demanded to know why ICANN didn't approve .xxx "as a means of protecting our kids from the awful, awful filth, which is sometimes widespread on the Internet."

So as soon as we make the TLD .xxx available that there will surely "protect our kids" from "the awful Internet". There are so many profoundly ignorant things about that assertion I dont know where to start. I have no personal quarrel with .xxx, take it or leave it, but this is just a really really really REALLY dumbass reason to get it approved.

Props once again to "conservatives" for "protecting" us with incredible acumen (not to mention completely understanding what the "Internet" is and what the role of government is, and . . . ad absurdum).

AHAHHAHAHHAHHAHAAAHAHHAH!!!

'Cause that's gonna work (*heavy sarcasm*)!

RE: Bring on the pr0n - .xxx domains are here

You know, an astute friend of mine noted that if you are a pornographer the last thing you want is a domain that has more change of being filtered/blocked. I think the net effect of this conservative move and this new TLD will be exactly the opposite of anything helpful to keeping objectionable content ("awful") away from minors. Porn sites wont use .xxx, they will use whatever they can to get to more people, not something that will limit them to fewer people.

That is, until the real agenda is met and the Internet police in the states require porn to be on .xxx (but hell nowadays there is zero regulation of a TLD having some meaning, .org is not non profit, .com is not commercial, .net is not net related, etc).

RE: Bring on the pr0n - .xxx domains are here

How is this awful, awful filth "sometimes" widespread? Is there like no "awful, awful filth" on Thursdays? Does the "awful, awful filth" level fluctuate wildly from hour to hour?
