Canada approves same sex marriage

Last night the Canadian Senate voted 47-21 to approve same sex marriage and according to an NPR report this AM a cheer went up in the chamber.

Wow.

While I personally think same sex marriage should be legal anywhere (anywhere the state recognizes any marriage, which is the real issue here - the state should not be in the cultural/religious "marriage" business in the first place, everything should be a "civil union" at the courthouse and have whatever "marriage" you want at your church/synagogue/beachhouse) as there is absolutely no good reason for the state to forbid a consensual union between any two people, rather there are only specious and ideological reasons to oppose such, I do also realize that Canada is liberal and socialist and that this is not a huge surprise.

Still I give Canada great credit and praise for treating people equally and I say wow because of the disparity between that nation and the states despite the close geography, close relations and general amiability (normally, of course the "Canadian Bacon" President did want to wage a war, but thats another matter - "Is Canada foreign? Or a country? - You smell that - No - EXACTLY - Canada).   Canada adopts gay marriage law

RE: Canada approves same sex marriage

I'm sick of them getting special treatment. I think gays should have to deal with spouses and overbearing in-laws like the rest of us.

RE: Canada approves same sex marriage

Amen

And not have someone to watch the game with whom they also like to boink. Not fair.
