I saw the headline in my feed reader and straight away thought, that must be Hagel or McCain (the only Republican senators that appear to have any testicles at all).
I have previously noted that I agree with Hagel over the matter of detainee abuse and torture.
Recently McCain has introduced legislation that would place a ban on torture and inhumane treatment of prisoners. You know, one of those "laws" we never really had to have because no one ever imagined a President or CIA or Defense Department (et al) which would even consider doing such - not coming from the United States of America - but the current administration not only has considered such but is doing so and *defending that position vehemently* - so now we need a law.
It is unconscionable to me that George W. Bush - and or ANYONE in the United States of America - would want to condone torture? Hello? What about all the speeches about what separates use from them. What about decades of foreign policy? What about fucking common sense and little details like the Geneva Convention? What about the little facts like besides all of the illegitimacy it entails it also DOES NOT WORK (does not provide reliable information - but then again who needs "reliable" information in the Bush Administration - no need to set a precedent now).
It has recently been reported that not only is the Bush administration opposed to this law but that the US may have so called "black sites" - secret prisons.
Secret prisons, veto of laws banning torture? What country and what day and age is this again?
