Google to offer pay per download video from CBS

Google is expected to announce pay per download video from CBS, the NBA and others, at their CES keynote later today.

They are also expected to announce "Google Pack" - a package of software that "will include all sorts of popular software, such as Symantec's (Nasdaq: SYMC) antivirus tools, RealNetworks' (Nasdaq: RNWK) RealPlayer, and of course, Google's own toolbars and desktop search utilities." That and reportedly Trillian.

The "pack" may be a step towards a "web OS" as some have speculated. I think the video idea is cool as hell, the pack I will avoid so long as it contains anything from Symantec and the damn RealPlayer (that thing is so full of extraneous crap like weather and popup ads and so on that no on should go near it, and they make it very difficult to find the "Free" version on their site anymore - very deceptive).

RE: Google to offer pay per download video from CBS

I'm hoping there is more substance than this 'pack'. With a market capital nearly equal to IBM this is what we get? Real Player, AdAware and Firefox? Probably only for Windows. I just don't get it.
The pay for video thing needs to get started, but really it is not that usefull until it gets enough content that I can dump my cable company (which is what many of us really want to do).

Totally agree.
