More on Democracy TV, using it to "subscribe" to torrents

You can set up RSS subscriptions to torrents in various ways. Using Democracy.tv, feedburner, Tv.RSS and BitTorrent is one fairly easy way to do it (really easy, even for the non technically inclinded). JNewland notes precisely how to do this. How to Subscribe to TV Shows Using The Democracy Player & Bittorrent & RSS 1. Download The Democracy Player 2. Search for a show of your choice at TVRss 3. Right click on the Search-based RSS Feed link and select Copy Link URL 4. Go to Feedburner, and paste the URL into the text field on the home page, check the “I am a Podcaster! box, and click next. 1. If you don’t already have a Feedburner account, you’ll be prompted to create one 5. Click “Next to activate the feed 6. Copy the URL of the feed provided by Feedburner (it should start with http://feeds.feedburner.com/) 7. Open The Democracy Player, click “Add Channel, and paste the URL of the feed into the field that appears 8. Sleep. In the morning, you should have an episode of The Daily Show, or whatever show you searched for on TVRss, to watch 9. New episodes will automatically be downloaded as soon as they’re available on Bittorrent – I’ve found this to usually be a day after the show airs 10. Enjoy! Its exactly this type of app/utility, along with independent and purposely non DRMed content which will hopefully wake up current huge media companies trying to force various bits of DRM legislation down our throats (there are several legislative efforts to REQUIRE people to DRM their content and or to require all signals to be DRMed, Galactic Interactions and various other blogs have noted how out of control the current proposed legislation is - of course see the EFF Action Alerts page for the laundry list). When the mega publishers realize that people will JUST GO ELSEWHERE for their non DRMd content, if and when they have the choice, maybe they will stop thinking allowing a legal purchaser to exercise fair use is such a horrible thing (if I buy it then leave me alone, no DRM at all on any of my own devices - that is another crazy aspect of all the recent legislation that seems to evade the general understanding, the legislation is aimed not only at the content but at the DEVICES). And even without the huge DRM battle implications this type of delivery method, digital subsription to just the "feeds" you want, sure as hell should be the future of "television".
