Some people REALLY miss the point

State bill proposes Christianity be Missouri’s official religion (requires BugMeNot login).

Missouri legislators in Jefferson City considered a bill that would name Christianity the state's official "majority" religion.
House Concurrent Resolution 13 has is pending in the state legislature.
Many Missouri residents had not heard about the bill until Thursday.
Karen Aroesty of the Anti-defamation league, along with other watch-groups, began a letter writing and email campaign to stop the resolution.
The resolution would recognize "a Christian god," and it would not protect minority religions, but "protect the majority's right to express their religious beliefs.
The resolution also recognizes that, "a greater power exists," and only Christianity receives what the resolution calls, "justified recognition."
State representative David Sater of Cassville in southwestern Missouri, sponsored the resolution, but he has refused to talk about it on camera or over the phone.
KMOV also contacted Gov. Matt Blunt's office to see where he stands on the resolution, but he has yet to respond.

And Domino's Pizza founder to bankroll Catholic town.

Does anyone really need to point out what the little constitution says - or why? (Or for that matter what Jesus ACTUALLY taught?)

These guys need to move to, lets see, IRAN, you can do that type of shit there I hear (oh yeah, but wrong religion, so we should just start Christian analog here). (And actually I give these guys some credit, at least they have the balls to admit how fucking much they want a theocracy which mandates THEIR religious views - unlike people that say their religion in govt views are not about religion [ten commandments assholes et al] - as fucking retarded a thing as that is to want at least these guys admit it.)

The US is a republic. You need to look at the whole US Constitutional process historically. I thought that we are endowed by the Creator (even if you think you were hatched from bird excrement on a flat rock in the sun) with certain inalienable rights, like:
life (the right to life people have a valid argument)
liberty (freedom from oppresive government including Democrats and Republicans)
and the pursuit of happiness (that is a very broad range as long it is legal)
SO YOU DON'T REALLY GET IT, OR ARE YOU JUST SUFFERING FROM A CASE OF KEYBOARD DIARRHEA AND MIND CONSTIPATION???!

RE: Some people REALLY miss the point

"I thought" . . . good one, you thought, thats funny.

RE: Some people REALLY miss the point

One other note, not for the "shit poster" but for anyone else that might read the thread. The word "God" or "creator" or "Jesus" does not appear in the consitution, by design. Really, check it out (the endowed by a creator stuff is in a different document).

The "historically Christian nation" tact though is a popular one. Its nonsense but its popular. Some of the framers were religious and many were not but all of them understood why it was important to separate church and state - hence they fucking WROTE THAT IN THE DOCUMENT (some of the most influential, Jefferson for example, were atheists or deists).

And "liberty" is exactly what you OUTLAW once you make a "Catholic Town" or a "Christian State". That is the point all of these types so fervently miss.

All of these things are great in your private life, but you cannot have the state mandate them, that is wrong on many fronts (all of which are trivial to understand but apparently beyond many insecure religious types that want to have their beliefs mandated).

RE: Some people REALLY miss the point

The thing is, people like alfsborg fall into a language trap. Whenever they start to talk about the nature of "republic" they instantly mean "screw everyone but me" (it is a code word just like "Concerned" means "I don't like black people").

Discussion of the tyranny of the majority is older than our nation, but the idea that just because a majority of people want something that it is just is simply a non-started. Might does not make right, and neigther does numerical superiority.
