"Digital Kids" and web filters

CNet has an article about kids outsmarting web filters, in this case the kid created a proxy at his house and re-routed a school machine through it. This points out a few obvious things, kids are smart, kids are technically saavy and once again filters alone do not work.

This was a special sort of case, an older kid, an obviously questionable school network and a proxy (hell I have done that at the office before ;)). In a case such as this you may not stop the kid (he HAS a proxy at home, tells you the sort of level of supervision he is getting at the house, and he is obviously at least fairly smart).

Even though this was a special case I still bring this up because I like to harp on web filters and how unless you are talking WHITELIST (with secure network in general) they dont work very well (though admittedly if the browser can be re-routed to another proxy then no filter will work).
