"Intellectual Property Protection Act of 2006"

The Bill the Hollywood cartels don’t want you to see

This soon to be proposed legislation is completely ridiculous. I would laugh at it, except they passed the current DMCA too - insane.

The DMCA 2.0 thing creates more severe penalties for so called IP "crimes" and expands upon what is considered to be illegal. Under the proposed legislation it would be a crime to attempt to commit copyright infringement whether or not you succeed and it would be a crime to posses hardware or software which "can be used to bypass copy-protection devices" (it's just brilliant when governments make laws based on capabilities and possibilities rather than actual infractions - and in these cases even what IS an infraction is bullshit - FAIR USE should be allowed). In addition it expands upon federal powers for electronic surveillance such as wiretaps in areas concerning IP and allows criminal prosecution for copyright violations even if the work was not registered with the U.S. Copyright Office.

Read the details and then call your congresspeople and tell them not to support this flawed and obviously industry pandering legislation.
