Hmmm, where have we heard George W. Bush utter those words before (ok so his administration at least, I think it was actually Cheney that made the infamous previous "weeks not months" statement)?
Despite the credibility chasm with the international community that Mr. Bush's administration earned the last time they were involved with an international crisis concerning the UN (and the resulting debacle that the last situation turned out to be exactly as other UN nations said it might) the administration is apparently undaunted and is again issuing edicts and warnings invoking the name of the Security Council - this time aimed at Iran.
My outrage fatigue level is off the scale but suffice to say that a lot of the asinine policy in Iraq by the Bush administration CREATED THE IRAN MESS and that "sabre rattling" as it were is absolutely not the way to deal with the current situation regardless (thats exactly what the Iranian leadership wants, the conflict keeps the unity on "hate America" rather than dealing with the tyrannical leaders where prior to other US actions in the area progress was being made, and the Iranian populous is only given more reason to believe that dislike of the US is appropriate when its leader keeps saying "or else").
Couple all the other bullshit with the fact that Iran has nuclear technology in the first part thanks to that great "ally" of the United States Pakistan. A country clearly involved many aspects of terrorism over the years (and for that matter presently) and funneling various amounts of money and weapons to all sorts of characters, including it turns out nuclear technology to Iran.
George W. Bush making any type of statements about his concepts and ideas concerning ANY geopolitical situation is scary enough, we he starts doing it in regard to Iran and nuclear weapons it should wake everybody up and serve as a call to action to get his party the hell out of politics in the upcoming elections (regardless of whatever new smoke blowing nonsense such as marketing shifts to the "global struggle against violent extremism" and specious amendments concerning gay marriage and flag burning are pulled between now and the elections).
And for the record I am not saying that we should not be concerned about and trying to deal with the Iran situation, quite the contrary. What I am saying is that the Bush "or else" MO may not be the best way to deal with it (especially in light of the fact that such an approach, used previously in a neighboring state, created or at least greatly contributed to the situation existing in the first place).
