Asshat of the month: Joseph Pitts

Back when Mr. Cooper reported on the genius Player Haters I commented about one congress person in particular pulling off the amazing feat of being totally clueless about the "content causes bad kids" issue (in this case pertaining to video games) and being a raging bigot at the same time.

Joseph Pitts (R-Pennsylvania) was not the specific focus of the Daily Show segment, he was not even directly interviewed, he was simply one of many congresspeople who were recorded during their "hearing" on the matter and his exact words were played back. He said:

It's safe to say that a wealthy kid from the suburbs can can play Grand Theft Auto or similar games without turning to a life of crime, but a poor kid, who lives in a neighborhood where people really do steal cars, or deal drugs or shoot cops might not be so fortunate. There's almost certainly child somewhere in America who will be hurt by these games. Maybe his dad's in jail or his brother's already down on the corner, dealing drugs.

Now it seems that Pitts is pissed for the way he was "portrayed" on the Daily Show. "Portrayed"? - they used your exact words and let you read them off, jackass (Stewart also called the collective group, the House, "insane jackasses", and I think it is apt - so there was that "portrayal" but clearly nothing was Foxed or Roved as Mr. Pitts indicates).

RE: Asshat of the month: Joseph Pitts

You know all these people going on and on about video games hurting kids are sure quiet on gun control. It seems if you realy cared about kids shooting each other with guns you would be concerned about gun control. That said - I second the nomination to name M. Pitts Asshat of the month.
