IE7 drops

Internet Explorer 7

I know lots of folks have been using the beta and release candidates over the last two years already, but its a milestone, the non beta actual product has been released.

Its got tabs, improved security (really, how could it possibly NOT have improved security, the bar is fairly low), RSS support, a little "instant search" box in the upper right hand corner and sports a new look. Wonder where all that inspiration came from, hmmmmmm? Either way though, its a hell of an improvement (better late, being drug kicking and screaming to update your products, than never).

RE: IE7 drops

We'll see... I installed the RC last week and uninstalled it the next day. Couldn't open new windows, all kinds of strange behaviour. I'll try it again but I installed Firefox 2 the same day and I've been very pleased with it.

RE: IE7 drops

I have to say, I tried IE7 on a machine at the house, and quite liked it. I did not have any problems.

Though Cooper sent me this today - first flaw found < 24 hours, funny, not unexpected but still funny.

And I have to say, while I liked IE7, yeah I use FF2. IE7 is basically just like FF2 with the "Foxpose" extension built in (at least from what I saw). So if my choices are all that "genuine advantage" crap - closed source, reporting me back to HQ all the time, etc, or an open source browser, even if all the features are the same (which they still are not, IE7 is better, but still missing lots of stuff that FF has - mostly plugins though, and yes IE7 now also supports that mo, so that will catch up), guess which one I choose.

For what it is, it's decent, but the world does not need IE7, it needs more people using and contributing to an open source, completely standards compliant, browser.
