IBM gears up to deliver cellular content

IBM today announced plans to begin supporting WAP (Wireless Applications Protocol) to its medium to large business partners. This means basically the protocols for that "Wireless Web" crap you see on TV all the time.

"WAP phones are reaching the market now and there are not that many services out there, but the market will explode and demand for our services will grow," said Mark Bregman, an IBM e-business executive. "We want to be in the race early on. We've already got 100 customers in the pipeline"
This sucks ass. The WAP standard blows chunks anyway. I think we would all be better off waiting until we can move the whole cell system to something IP based that can carry XML docs with an XSL for cell phones. Hell, how about a pager sized transceiver that clips to your belt and Bluetooths its way to your PDA/Browser/Notebook and a Voice over IP "Phone" handset. Somebody STOP ME!
