Linux is Unamerican; Microsoft is a Threat to National Security

Here are some great barbs for you.One bashing MS monoculture as a threat to the security of the Internet, the other a barb from a MS exec calling Linux "unamerican". HAHAHA

Microsoft == Communism

Waaaaaah! Mommy, Linux is hurting sales of Win2k! Waaaaah! Mommy, make it stop! Waaaaah!
Linux is based on principles of self-reliance, independence and equality. You can't get more American than that. On the other hand, Microsoft's founding principles are to crush all opposition, have centralised control and reduce the consumer's choices. That's communism.

Re: Linux is Unamerican; Microsoft is a Thread to National Secu

Both of these articles are just ripe for picking apart. The 'Linux is un-american' has already been addressed by Gareth.

The Linux article is too much as well. Just look at the Microsoft response. They were able to pick it apart. The thing that I get tired of seeing in these flame wars is the generalities that they goto to make their point. All MS code is bad code. All Open-source code is good code. All closed code is evil. It's trite at best.

Right now, if I were to post a pro-MS article that was 100% accurate on ./, I would be ripped apart. Doesn't matter if I'm right or not. Samething goes with Redmond. Were I to send them a pointer to check out this open-source standard or API, I am sure that they would corrupt the API or change theirs to not work with it. (See what I mean about generalities ;)

This war is so religious in nature now, that I fear that all rational discussion is doomed for failure, (even if some parties managed to get a rational discussion going.)

Anyone care to try?

I debate this all the time, and I try to do so non religiously (objectively.) Both the Microsoft technologies and many open source technoplogies do have merits. Its just that in mere factual substantive debate terms, Microsft suck ass! Hows that for impartial!
