Well, if finally came out. A.I., the last
Kubrick project that got dropped off after his
death and picked up by Spielberg is out. Let me
just say, I hate it so much that Spielberg got
this film I can taste it -- And I hate it that
Kubrick barely got any listing in the credit, that
Spielberg re-wrote the script....
This could have been -- and maybe is -- the
first piece of hard sci-fi to come out of
Hollywood since the 2001 series (hmm. Who did that
one?). The major problem is the level of crap that
gets stuffed into the movie. There is so much
"filler" plot about unimportant things, and the
issues that really tweaked my interest were just
brushed over. The movie is not nearly dark enough.
This one should have gone to Brian Singer or
Ridley Scott. The amount of E.T. level of
emotional maturity -- and not just relating to the
child minds, but of the whole film -- is
disappointing.
TOTSP Score: 3.6 on our scale of 5.2. Worth
seeing, but now I'm really holding out for Kiss of
the Dragon and Planet of the Apes to ressurect
this anemic summer movie season.

Re: Review: A.I.
For all those Kubrick fans who are vomiting because of what Steve did to A.I., be sure to come down to the Fox Theatre tonight to catch the Kubrick double-feature...they are showing "Dr. Strangelove" and "A Clockwork Orange", starting at 8PM. Go ahead and watch these two great films so you can reassure yourself of Kubrick's genius.
