Cats and dogs sleeping together. Mass hysteria.
Looks list de Icaza is going to base future versions of GNOME on Microsoft's .NET.
Did Balmer pay this guy off? Is this what the last episode of the X-Files is going to be about?
I read this story the other day and thought, hmmm, ok. The founder guy (de Izaca?) always has some strange ideas. He should know his codebase best, and if it will really really help then fine, but I dont get it. The advantages he spoke of, manageability and security are EXACTLY why I would NOT use .Net.
These are the same guys doing the porting of .Net to unix and it sounds like the phenomenon where once you commit you have to go that way regardless (and they are probably betting on som bank for the porting software.)
It makes sense for them, but I wouldnt use it, and I think overall it will hurt Gnome (limiting it to being run on the ported stuff only.)
The only other thing I would mention is that Gnome is cool and all, but the first thing I do with my X win installs anyway, is try to get rid of everything Gnome. KDE without Gnome man, KDE.
Stallman is amazed and confused by the .Net move also. Not surprising, not that I generally agree with Stallman (cause I DONT) but this time he has a case.

Follow up - RMS is upset about it
