Ashcroft Strikes Back

Just in case you missed this one, the DoJ has been outed with an expansion of the Patriot Act they want to push through congress.

Check this out:

Among other things, it would prohibit disclosure of information regarding people detained as terrorist suspects and prevent the Environmental Protection Agency (news - web sites) from distributing "worst-case scenario" information to the public about a nearby private company's use of chemicals.

In addition, the measure would create a DNA database of "suspected terrorists;" force suspects to prove why they should be released on bail, rather than have the prosecution prove why they should be held; and allow the deportation of U.S. citizens who become members of or help terrorist groups.

Re: Ashcroft Strikes Back

I am stunned by all of this. Its incredible that the year is 2003 and anyone, anywhere, cant see all the things wrong with these "plans".

Yet at the same time, I guess you and I are the only ones who disagree with these policies, or the only ones who care. Because recall the "patriot act" was passed in a flurry of bullshit last year. Its been clear what Prez Bush and his cabinet think about privacy for individuals, privacy for corporations, and injecting their own religious view into everything for some time. Yet, this country gave them a big hell yeah and agreed with them in the last mid term election.
