Andrew Tepper annouced the forthcoming MMORPG "A Tale in the Desert" from indie game company eGenesis will be the first MMORPG to have 0-day Linux support in a fan chat yesterday. MMORPG for the acronym impared stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game-- think Ultima Online or EverQuest.
ATITD is set in ancient Egypt and focusses on community building, crafting and self organization. This is a notable shift from the Hack-N-Slash MUD hold-overs that make up most of the MMO market now. I had the opportunity to play in the public beta for a short time and was very impressed. This is the thinking man's MMO.
Aside from the Linux release, eGenesis gives props to OSS for greatly aiding their project and provides source code to their derivative of the CAL3D 3D APIs. There will be no "box cost" if you wish to download the game. However, there is a monthly fee ($13.95). Give it a go! Vote with your dollar! Show people that we will reward game developers who support Linux!
Bioware says Neverwinter Nights Linux client is coming soon... still...
