So if you haven't heard the buzz today, the FCC has now (circumstantially) taken the word "fuck" off the forbiddend words list. With the same qualifications as "shit." That is, it can be used in any context except its literal meaning.
Woo hoo.
I never thought I would be the one to say something like this, but this doesn't seem to be a good thing. Aside from what I imagine will be a hi-larious forthcoming South Park, I'm not sure that we need to turn every show on ABC into the Supranos without the quality.
All that aside, there was some caller on the radio this morning who was talking about how this was a great step for freedom of speech. Let me tell you, in a world where people who criticize policy from taxes to school funding at labeled as "giving aid and comfort to terrorist," and the elimination of due process and representation and even the Geneva Conventions because of some parsed language, the elimination of fair use for commentary and research, this just doesn't even ring to me at all as an advancement of Freedom of Speech.
