I don't think there is a buzz about this, but I have been seeing a lot of discussion about Next-Genish XML UI languages. Microsoft has XAML rolling out with Longhorn, Macromedia has the very cool, and very expensive Flex server, Sun is Plugging the Nexaweb stuff today and there is always XUL and the much heralded Yalta between Mozilla and GNOME about where they want to go today.
The real problem here, is all of these are good to great applications and they all do about the same damned thing.
I don't care if it is the W3C or whoever, but somebody needs to step up to the plate and normalize this mess. The last thing we need is to have 62,000 versions of XML User Interface floating around and god knows how many servers, interpreters and browser plug ins to support them all.
HTMLs is starting to show its age now that a large chunk of EAD starts and ends with Web-based applications, but what made HTML so successful in the first place was the broad acceptance of a standard. Where ever we are going, we need to get all these people a the same table and come up with something that everyone can use. -- .NET, Java or Pascal.

Re: XAML, XUL, XCS and somebody needs to step up here.
I agree completely, but not sure how anyone will convince MS to join the pack.
