FTC Starts to Clue Up About Stupid Patents

Thanks to /. again for this one, but the Beeb is reporting that the FTC is going to reevaluate the patent fiasco. This after Apple gets a patent on music-streams-on-demand and Microsoft patents the "double click". Not to mention the slew of other stupid shit that has come throught the PTO.

Frankly I think we should just abandon software patents altogether. They are just bound to be stupid.

That aside, I think the really telling fact is:

Indeed, academic studies have shown that half of all issued US Patents should not have been approved and the Patent Office ultimately greenlights over 95% of all original applications to issue as a patent.
