Man, I don't even know what to say about this kind of stuff anymore. It seems that HHS scientists must get clearance from the politicos to talk a conferences now. Check out how the Administrations spins this:
"Except under very limited circumstances, U.S. government experts do not and cannot participate in WHO consultations in their individual capacity," Steiger wrote. Civil service and other regulations "require HHS experts to serve as representatives of the U.S. government at all times and advocate U.S. government policies."
So, correct me if I am wrong here, but what you are saying is there is NO independent science. Rather, all subject matter experts have to tow the political line or they are in violation of their employee agreement? I guess that sticks with the M.O. of the Bushies, but jeez. You would think someone would just kinda choke before they could admit it out loud.

Yeah this is just insane. Now the employees of the US govt cannot "participate in indovidual capacities". Wow. And they must at all times "advocate" US policies. I say we just provide the scientists, and all the rest of the employees, with custom fitted jack boots and teach them to hail.

I really don't understand how you can hate America this much. Continue to exercise your freedom of speech to bash the military that protects it for you (and that protects you). Continue to bash a President with the intestinal fortitude to enforce a long list of UN resolutions and dethrone a dictator that was killing his own people by the thousands. Oh, and by the way, I've not heard any talk later about the WMD, could that be because we're finding them? Oh, my mistake, we're finding components of WMD's (specifically, warheads armed with sarin gas, mustard gas, etc.)

Yesm that is your mistake. We're not finding them. The only instance of a WMD found in Iraq was the one empty-but-tainted howitzer shell used as an IED.
I challenge you to find one single quote on this website where we bash our military.
But yes, we just hate America.
to anonymous america hater
I will bite, here goes ;)
I dont hate America, thats the point, I believe in the Constitution and the right of FREE people to speak their minds, whatever that might result in. Try reading the Constitution of the United States of America. Try reading the article to which you have commented and try paying attention to reality and pesky things like facts.
You are flat out wrong that the military protects ANY of my rights.
The military enforces the will the President in a military action and that of Congress in a real war (which has not been declared in Iraq I might point out). I have certain inalienable rights because I am a human being that I could exercise with or without the military protecting me. The United States is a great
country because it recognizes these rights (for the most part) and many countries do not. I think the military serves a valid purpose and is made up of very brave and noble people, but they arent there to protect my rights, try that pesky Constitution reading thing again.
The current administration has put our military in a conflict where they (and civilians) are getting
killed purportedly to make the world safer? Bullshit, the Iraq conflict has made the world far less
safe by creating more and more hatred for the US around the world and has inspired more and more
"terrorists" AND has satisfied niether of the reasons given for motive beforehand, WMD or war on "terrorism" (and dont take my word for this point of view, take the views of many that have left the Bush administration or the DMCC). The current action in Iraq is the result of a series of failed foreign policy decisions and flat out deception by the President that has seriosuly weakend American relationships around the world and American "national security" itself. The only valid "American" response to such actions is to call out the bullshit and make every effort to peaceably remove the administration that has created the quagmire of problems.
And I will continue to bash any President that harms America in such ways. I will also bash any President that cannot pronounce "intestinal fortitude" as you erroneously give him credit for having. You see I consider the job of President to be an important one that demands a learned and wise person. This job has ramifications for the present and future state of the world and I dont care who the President is so long as he takes actions that are contrary to the interests of our country and the world I will call it out as wrong. (Never did I imagine that anyone could fuck things up and make as many wrong choices as the current administration has, but regardless I would be opposed to these actions regardless of the "fortitude" of the person making them.)
As to the President "enforcing UN resolutions" well thats a great one, did you intend the humor? That is absolutely not the job of the President, or the United States for that matter. But lets just humor you and say that it is, so then when the UN directly opposes the military action and says they do NOT sanction it and instead one country goes against their wishes and invades another should that invading country then be citing the UN as a REASON for the invasion. Good one indeed.
Therefore I would argue (with an actual point I might add, unlike you) that YOU and the current US administration are the ones that "hate America so much". You exhibit a profound ignorance when to comes to what freedom means, what Democracy means, what the Constitution says and what the US is supposed to stand for (hint, its not supposed to stand for thought control for Scientists, or disregarding the Geneva conventions to torture "enemy combatants" or lying about motives for military actions or . . . .).
