F9/11

I still haven't seen it, but my vote for best review comes from Drum at WaMo.
Now, as it happens, I thought Fahrenheit 9/11 was a bit mediocre even as polemic, but the thing that really struck me about the film was the almost poetic parallellism between its own slanders and cheap shots and the slanders and cheap shots of pro-war supporters themselves over the past couple of years. If Moore had done this deliberately, it would have been worthy of Henry James. Take the first half hour of the film, in which Moore exposes the close relationship between the Bush family and the House of Saud. Sure, it relies mostly on innuendo and imagery, but then again, he never really makes the case anyway. He never flat out says that the Bush family is on the Saudi payroll. Rather, he simply includes "9/11," "Bush," and "Saudi Arabia" in as many sentences as possible, thus leaving the distinct impression that George Bush is a bought and paid for subsidiary of the Saudi royal family. Which is all remarkably similar to the tactic Bush himself used to link Saddam Hussein to 9/11. He never flat out blamed Saddam, but rather made sure to include the words "9/11," "Saddam Hussein," and "al-Qaeda" in as many sentences as possible, thus leaving the distinct impression that Saddam had something to do with it.

RE: F9/11

Well I havent seen the film either, but I did read Dude Wheres My Country which some reviewers have stated contains much of the same material. I agree that this parallel of innuendoes is present but I think that in Moores case there actually is real evidence to back up his claims. I could be mistaken here but I think the Carlyle Group is on record all over the place as a public corporation headed by mainly Saudis including a Bin Laden or two and George Bush senior. That is a fact and then there are a plethora of deals with Carlyle and the US and Saudi Governments? Those two facts (if indeed they are factual) add up to evidence for Moores implication, there is none for Bushes despite exhaustive efforts and extreme pressure to "come up with" something.

RE: F9/11

Well, the one thing the thrasher media hasn't been able to do yet is poke a hole in any of the facts in F911. Most of the time when they have tried its been a case of "He never ACTUALLY SAID that". Moore never said the Saudi VIPs left the country when the airspace was closed. He never actually said a lot of things. But he does paint a picture. Honestly, I couldn't even finish "Dude..". It was just too ranty and Coulteresque for me, and not nearly funny enough to make up for its political shortcomings.

RE: F9/11

As I re-read this I want to add that the connection between Bush family and 9-11 is defintely as tenuous as the Iraq - 9-11 connection. So in that regard the parallel is absolutely just. I meant that a connection between Bush family and corporations such as Carlyle (and other industrial and investment companies) is clearly established and that those connections clearly include Saudi Arabia and the royal family (and some Bin Ladens). Not only that but those connections are in my opinion unethical as hell. I mean sure former politicians and even the President can serve for public/private corporations, but when those corporations massive profits hinge on US foreign policy and governmental contract deals and such US ex Presidents and ex other high ranking officials should maybe say "well, thats sort of not appropriate due to my previous job and my connections". I mean was George Bush senior involved with Carlyle because of his extreme brainpower as it relates to investment banking, if so then more power to him, if not and maybe in reality is was more for his political influence and connections then its profoundly inappropriate. And there is some, albeit tenuous, connection between Saudi Arabia and moslem fundamentalism and even terrorism. These guys are nice to us and we like their oil and all but they treat criminals and women and such in the same "inhumane" ways as Saddam or the Taliban or many Muslim nations do. And they have many funding links to terrorist organizations, couple that will billions of dollars in investment groups that rely on connections with former US Presidents and you have at least an indirect link to the Bush bank account and terrorist organizations.

RE: F9/11

Agreed about Dude, it was really hard to read because it had no humor and was just seemingly full of conspiracy and hyperbole. It was not one of Moores better efforts. "Coulteresque" is a great word for it, it was no fun, it was just venom in the anti Coulter direction.

RE: F9/11

Saw the flick today, wow, very impressive. A lot less Michael Moore opinion and more interviews, documents and so on (at least I thought so) than some previous Moore work. I personally felt this was his best and most impressive film yet. And yes, it is a HUGE bashing of the Bush Administration, but guess what its not fiction? If the bash fits . . .

RE: F9/11

Just like moore can find out all this information about bush, the republican right can find all the flaws in the movie whether they truly are will be based on our own opinions.

RE: F9/11

well moore had documents and stuff. sure things can be slanted one way or another and moore normally does a lot of that, but in f911 he stayed out of the way (much of the time, not always) and showed things like faa records, cia briefing documents, bush military records, and so on. these are sure as hell things the right will not want to believe, and due to the way belief works therefore not believe, but they cant just be refuted due to "opinion" in a place called the real world.
