We seldom legislate new technologies into being. They emerge, and we plunge with them into whatever vortices of change they generate. We legislate after the fact, in a perpetual game of catch-up, as best we can, while our new technologies redefine us - as surely and perhaps as terribly as we've been redefined by broadcast television.
That left sense of humor line is funny, I will give you that.
(But in reality do you really think its the left that cant see humor and cant laugh at itself, or is that some clever sarcasm or something, I mean put Al Franken up against Bill O'Reilly (just to use a popular pair) and who actually has a sense of humor? For that matter any left against any of the good ole religious boys on the right, they have a sense of humor?)
