360

Not Anderson Cooper. Not Tony Hawk. Not even Dave Mirra. Yahoo! 360 is going into beta.

Don't call it a comeback, I've been here for years.

I suspect Yahoo may be playing a little too close to the vest on this one, but I can understand after TheGlobe.com and GeoCities and all the other crap they have bought on buzzwords over the years being a little stand offish, but Yahoo 360 looks directly like a counter to MSN Spaces: combination "social networking", blogging, photosharing, music, whatever.

I am actually intested to see what Yahoo! does with it. I looked at MSN Spaces and it is HORRIBLE. HORRIBLE. Yahoo, however, knows this space a little better than MSN. Frankly, though, I don't see there being much chance Yahoo could put out anything on short order that is on a par with the standalones-- especially Flickr. Even worse, just looking at my Yahoo! Mail account and GMail account side by side, I cringe thinking what a Yahoo blogging deal would look like.

RE: 360

Didnt even know about flickr. So whats with Picassa, is that the same type thing? And how do they integrate with all these standard blogs, is there some API the blogs are implementing? (And penguin should implement?)

RE: 360

Picassa is is the Google product, but it is more akin to iPhoto/gPhoto with some hooks to publish on blogger.

Yeah, all these things are based on using the BloggerAPI or the MetaWeblogAPI, both of which I want to implement in the new penguin.

Flickr is, frankly, the best piece of web-client design work I have ever seen. It is pretty much all about publishing your pictures on the web -- and archiving them if you want to pay the $10 a year or whatever. It's not camera/imagemanip/whatever software like iPhoto/gPhoto. It is EXCEPTIONAL at what it does, though. And you can email pics from your phone to it, publish photos directly into your blog with one of the APIs, etc. Really really great.
