Lance Mannion found this story of a woman who tried to sneak the 10 commandments onto government property with government money but hiding the commandments in a statue that's supposed to be dedicated to Atticus Finch. Yes, the character from To Kill a Mockingbird, who we all recall was a Bible-thumping, woman-hating, Townhall-reading machine. That or he was one of those dreaded "trial lawyers", those dreaded blood-sucking monsters who dare use the court of law to steal from people their right to piss all over those who are below them in the social hierarchy. I can't remember, and neither apparently can the artist Rita Dee.

RE: Thou Shalt Learn the Meaning of Irony
At least the mayor and so on stood up to the BS. We have the opposite problem here in GA, often, nothing is "snuk" in but rather the mayor and governor and so on attend ceremonies professing their ignorance and putting religios symbols on display in government buildings.
"I thought this piece is a thing of beauty," Dee said. "For a person that does share the faith, it gives them comfort. For someone that doesn't, it gives them a little reminder of where our laws come from."
I wonder if she understands that what she just said is "Alas and alcak for you, all ye Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, and other pagans and heathens, you live in America now and in America all our laws come from the Christian Bible!" Possibly she's no better at interpreting her own words than she is at interpreting Harper Lee's.
Right on. I also wonder if she knows shes completely fucking wrong about Christian religion being the "basis" of anything, well other than things like misogyny, bigotry, intolerance, ethnocentrism, xenophobia, etc, but not "laws". (And for the record I do not think most of the list of bad things that Christianity has emboldened, such as in the previous sentence - which is by no means comprehensive, are necessarily the CORRECT interpretation of the religion, but like it or not said religion is often quoted and used as justification for those stupid things.)

"For a person that does share the faith, it gives them comfort. For someone that doesn't, it gives them a little reminder of is fucking in charge around here."
