From the PBS website:
Beginning Sept. 6, PBS will make available - exclusively over the Internet - broadcast television's first entirely downloadable series, featuring PBS technology columnist and industry insider Robert X. Cringely's interviews with personalities from the ever-changing world of technology.
...
"This ground-breaking series will be distributed under a Creative Commons license, so if viewers like what they see, they can redistribute the shows or even edit their own non-commercial version," Cindy Johanson, Senior Vice President, PBS Interactive Learning, said.

RE: Will PBS become as cool as the BBC?
SUHWEET!
I hear ABC is working on an internet only news program also.
I think people are catching on that bandwidth is such now that you can really have an actual program and distribute it via the net, totally bypassing the traditional cable/air.
And also, everyone needs to watch every Frontline ever made, all archived and avail at the PBS site. Props to PBS.
RE: Will PBS become as cool as the BBC?
Yeah, the Frontline site is great. So is the McNeil Leher site. Honestly, though, I wish that NPR and PBS would ditch RealPlayer and go to MP3 and DivX and just CC license everything like the BBC has. It is annoying that you can watch Frontline for free, but I can't, say, download it to carry around on a PSP or Archos.
