Gamecloud has a bit from Comic-Con on the Doom movie:
The teaser trailer had a lot of quick cuts of The Rock; Karl Urban and the rest of the cast along with brief looks at the monsters, the environment (and they look right out of Doom 3, by the way; right down to the computer screens on the base) and battles with the monsters. The second clip is the one that got the most reaction; part of the first person shooter sequence featuring Urban’s character. Yes, the movie will at one point have a viewpoint just like the game, right down to the weapons loading animation. The sequence was, by the producer’s own admission, still incomplete in terms of visual effects and other elements but watching the clip feels like you are watching the game in action, from surprise monster appearance in corridors to shooting parts of the environment to fry the creatures.edit
Both The Rock and Karl Urban were fans of the original Doom game before signing on to play the roles of space marines Sarge and John, respectively. The Rock said he got to use the classic weapons like the BFG in the movie and he, Urban and the other members of the space marine cast got real military training from a former SAS member to make sure that they worked together like a real special forces team would. All of the panel members mentioned that they were displeased that other movie adaptations of games strayed so far from the original material and while the Doom movie does have plot and character elements that the game does not have it still will be very close to how the game looks and plays. The Rock said that he saw a version of the movie a few days ago and in his words "It really kicks ass".You know, I saw the Rock on Jon Stewart quite a while ago, and he was talking up the Doom movie even as he was on a plug tour for his previous movie. With he and Stewart both being fans of the games, he specifically said that he didn't think fans would be disappointed, and as much as I want to make fun of the Wrestler-cum-Actor bit, The Rock has demonstrated a consistent ability to be in entertaining action movies, and Hollinshead has sworn he wouldn't let the movie go off the rails. I still hold out good hopes for the Doom movie. Certainly I expect it to be more in the Tomb Raider line than the Mortal Kombat line.
