NSA's Software Toolkit

From WaPo:
Lt. Gen. Keith B. Alexander, director of the National Security Agency, and William Marshall, another NSA official, give President Bush a tour of the super-secret agency's headquarters in Fort Meade, Md.
(Note the "Latest Tool Versions" display in the background...) Kismet, though? Is the NSA scoping for free WiFi?

RE: NSA's Software Toolkit

That roXor. Ethereal, Nessus, Nmap, sounds like my house except the versions are in a text file on the "server" rather than some fancy ass 17 foot screen that cost taxpayers $2MIL ;). Though I am actually glad to see that they are using that software and not some less capable expensive proprietary crap - so maybe they deserve a huge Apple Cinema display to show off to visiting dignitaries after they cut the software costs. I wonder if they have to add "just a theory" the math the day the President visits ;).

RE: NSA's Software Toolkit

I and I had never seen Metasploit before, it looks pretty interesting. Funny to learn about a project that way, but whatever works.

RE: NSA's Software Toolkit

Ok I am comment spamming here but Kismet has an IDS portion, its not just a wardriving tool.

RE: NSA's Software Toolkit

I also like how "Bittorrent" appears on the kind of "threatening" protocol list.

RE: NSA's Software Toolkit

Someone should do an article on the board itself. A large section dedicated to 'Top Corporate Viruses'? A conspiracy theorist would think the only reason the NSA would have all that crap up there was if they were the ones releasing the viruses as a means to 'spy' on individuals. You could almost imagine a color coding (yellow - China's NSA equivalant viruses, blue NSA's viruses, Red - KGB's viruses)

Very nice, the board is part of (or the very same as) the Talisker "radar" thing. Nice utility, but now I am far less impressed with the US govt big board ;).

its very good

Very good article thank you...
