Theirs is a bit different but I figure 8 bit x 3 in color and another 8 bit in shape on 300 dpi paper using 4 x 4 pixel areas, you get WAY WAY less than this. Maybe 30mb. Im not saying we can't get more resolution, but I will say we can't get more resolution on what "we" call "paper". This could be a promising research area, but it seems to me that even with 8x8x8 colors, you still need an awfully good color corrector to get to "Printer" quality.
