A central lesson of science is that to understand complex issues (or even simple ones), we must try to free our minds of dogma and to guarantee the freedom to publish, to contradict, and to experiment. Arguments from authority are unacceptable.
Hunting online, remote camera and gun, hmmm. I actually have to give this guy credit for being very imaginitive and resourceful and I think its a good bad idea.
Clarification. I dont think hunting in general, hunting for sport that is (no issues with hunting for food, for people that actually need the food) is a good idea. In fact I think its pretty stupid. And yes I have hunted. Another clarification. I think its stupid to call it a "sport" and pretend to be a "sportsman" and climb up in a "deer stand" and use a high powered rifle and so on.
Call it what it is and I have less issue with it, people that like to shoot shit for the sake of shooting shit (power and so on). There is no "sport" involved (well, very little, accuracy with the weapon takes skill, but the part about finding the quarry and shit is not hard, and I used to work for a zoo "hunting" animals, we did not kill them but yes I am familiar with having to find animals, even particular species in particular localities). Run down a deer with a knife and slit its throat, thats sport (and I have seen it done, by native people, in Brazil).
Now my personal opining about the stupidity of "hunting" in general aside I think that this guy with online hunting is totally within his rights and very smart.
I think its pretty sick that someone would want to shoot an animal online and have it shipped to them and so on, and sicker still that the guy says it could help "disabled" hunters and so on (again its people that like to shoot shit and kill shit, its not about "helping the disabled") but its not a lot different than regular hunting. Deer stand, deer (or whatever moves in many cases with the "sportsmen") walks by, shoot it, kill it with a rifle. The state officials seem to think they need some new legislation to deal with this, but its his land, his gun, his site, so on. So long as he ensures the hunters are licensed and the animals in season and so on they state should have no issue with it (if they have no issue with regular hunting).
hmm, I say make a videogame that uses real footage, let these people think they are killling animals. Or maybe we can give them an internet connection to a slaughterhouse?
Personally I'm not into hunting, but like it or not, its in our blood. I like shooting and target practice, but don't need to kill real animals to get the adrenaline flowing.
Ah, yes! I think I'll prove just how much of a man I am today, by sitting on my fat butt in the luxury of my own home, make the extreme effort to reach all the way down to the front of my computer, and turn it own , locate the "Kill a deer online" web site using my many years of stealth training, and click a mouse button to kill an animal that has absolutely no clue what-so-ever as to what is going on. Ah, yes! That makes me a man. That's something for me to be proud of. Now, I can honestly say that I kill deer with my computer mouse, while sitting on my lazy fat butt. "I am a COMPUTER GEEK! Hear me ROAR!!!"
