AOL 'spins off' Mozilla

Looks like the little dealy with Microsoft has convinced AOL to finally kill off Netscape. They've laid off nearly the entire Netscape staff and spun off a "Mozilla Foundation" to handle the affairs of Mozilla. They're actually being kinda cool about it in that they've given the moz-found a cool $2 million to get things going. I wanna say that this is great news, but I harbor doubt that it'll be all rosy once that cash gets burnt. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Think you open-source zealots will pay cash for Moz? I would. I paid for Opera, and I think that Moz is nicer now.   Internet News story

yeah this sucks, they are being pretty cool but we were so damn close to mozilla in AOL it wasnt even funny (it was in the betas for 7 i think). oh well, i think mozilla will keep rolling and i generally pay no attention to official netscape anyway. i would pay for mozilla but i doubt things will go that direction. at least now i can still officially hate the hell out of AOL and there is not going to be any conflict of interest.
