Sad students suck at science

Well, it seems that the US education system has another red mark on its record. A new study was just done that says on 20% of students have a solid grasp of science and only 50% or so have a basic understanding of science.

It seems that college trained scientists prefer to be able to feed their families without the assistance of foodstamps and so choose private industry over education after graduation. This means there are no longer any good teachers to train the future scientists. Existing science teachers who want to do a good job because Math and Reading are focused on in most school systems (hmmm, does this correlate to the SAT and other standardized tests?). No money or time is given for science.

Sad, but true. In related news, most people in Kansas still think that the earth is flat but they thoroughly dismiss the idea that it sits on the back of a turtle. "Preposterous", says Mary Homemaker, "everyone knows a turtle is too small. Now a few elephants, well, that's a different story...".   MSNBC story

Re: Sad students suck at science

i heard these stats on NPR man, its crazy. all of this in a world where people watch tv, listen to radio, take antibiotics and fly airplanes. its sad as hell. our entire society and our everyday lives are filled with incredible scientific achievements and yet most people just laugh when you mention science (they dont see the forest for the trees.)

RE: Sad students suck at science
