Hollywood 2000 - a brief look

I was just glancing through The Internet Movie Database trying to get a feel for what the year holds as far as theatrical releases. Well, there are plenty of movies in every category from TV show remakes, cop movies, serial killer flics to sci-fi, horror and sci-fi-horror-combo-sequal-remakes. I just want to list a few of the big names for each category so for more info, look up the titles on imdb.com. Sci-Fi: First I am sure we have all seen previews for Mission to Mars, but just in case one movie about the red planet isn't enough, there is another film immediately following aptly titled "Red Planet". While we are on the topic of cloning, you may want to check out the human cloning conspiracy movie "Sixth Day". Clint Eastwood will be directing a not-so sci-fi John Glenn inspired movie called "Space Cowboys" about old astronauts who want to go back in space. Don't fret, there will be several more movies about the earth being destroyed by cosmalogical crap such as "Supernova" and "Titan AE". Jodie Foster has turned down the right to an anti-sequal to "Contact" in which a man find's that his ham radio can contact 30 years into the past. Attention Scientologists, L Ron Hubbard's "Battlefield Earth" is finally making it to the big screen. I still have the original paperback with a big gold seal on the front that says 'Soon to be a major motion picture!', which I mistakenly took to mean less than 10 years time.People Dying on a Boat Movies: Das Boot 2? Probably not but Wolfgang Peterson is back on the seas directing "The Perfect Storm".Horror: Scream 3. Freddy vs Jason - yes I am serious. Scary Movie (Last summer I screamed because Halloween Fell on Friday the 13th) - a Wayans brothers thing. Jason X - I think they just did the other sequals so that they could eventually use this cool roman numeral. Burned to Light - maybe a good vampire flick about the making of Nosferatu, where the actor doesn't seem to be acting. A movie about doll sperm, "Seed of Chucky". Some more haunted house movies... "The Haunted House"..."What Lies Beneath"..."something .. Attic..." who cares... Movies with Leo: The Beach. Hopefully nothing else.Serial Killers: "American Psycho" - read the book and have enjoyed serving chocolate covered urinal cakes ever since. "The Cell" - has something to do with a psychiatrist and a comatose serial killer. "Silence of the Lambs 2" - not this year and not with Jody.TV Shows: Charlie's Angels.Comics: X-Men. Crow: Salvation - already spoiled a good thing once, why not do it again.Remakes: "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" - Should be Tim Burton directing not Ron Howard.Biography: "Lennon" - about the musician, not the communist leader.Worst Plot Summary: "Raging Silence" - a MUTE martial arts expert comes to America to find the drug smugglers who killed his daughter. At least this isn't a VanDamned film. It has Chris Tucker who can be funny as hell, but that's no excuse for such a cliche movie premise.Best Plot Summary: "Where the Heart is" - 'A pregnant 17-year-old is abandoned at a Wal-Mart in the middle of no where by her boyfriend with $7.77. She moves into the Wal-Mart and thus begins a new life.' I don't know where they are going with this idea, but it seems pretty original to me. I'm sure Boris over at IFC would like it.   IMDB
