Oracle backs Monterey

Oracle has decided to announce its support for Monterey, a cooperative effort to unify Unix and backed by IBM, Sequent, and SCO. This support includes porting not just the 8i database, but also technologies like Oracle Internet Directory, a competitor to Micro$oft\'s Active Directory.[temporarily slipping into an Andy Rooney impression: "Have ya ever noticed how often Micro$oft uses the word active in it\'s product names? Did you ever wonder if the MS Marketing Department is the only thing that is active over there in Redmond?"]The interesting part to me is the fact that on the database battlefield, Oracle and IBM are bitter rivals. Lately, though, they seem to have a lot to agree about in the operating system arena, including support for Linux. It will be interesting to see how Monterey impacts other Unix variants.Oracle finally commits to Monterey OS
