Keeping up with the Mandrakes --

As someone who probably spends entirely too much time upgrading his kernel (and not enough time using it), I was pleased to see a new RedHat beta distribution to waste more of my time. The distro is called "Fisher" and contains lots of updates including the following:

  • Linux kernel 2.4.0 + recent patches
  • Support for the Itanium (who cares)
  • XFree86 4.0.2
  • KDE 2.1 beta snapshot (very nice)
  • Better USB support
  • IEEE 1394 Firewire support
  • 802.11b Wireless Ethernet support (see related article: The Next Big Thing...)

In all, lots of fun stuff to play with. If you're running Linux and need to create some system downtime, follow the redhat beta link and enjoy.
