PHP is good but JavaServer Pages (JSP) is better. New from Sun Microsystems JSP beats any server-side scripting language I have ever used. With JSP you get to write in 100% Java code. Thus you get to reap all of the benefits of Java - platform indepence, object-oriented design, widespread industry support, enterprise scalability, the most elegant architecture of any language, etc., etc. Plus it runs faster that ASP, PHP, Perl, and a lot of those other jerky scripting languages. You also get your choice of JSP servlet engine software providers. IBM, NewAtlanta and Live Software already provide JSP enabled servlet engines and soon many others will join the field. I think NewAtlanta is the best, combining ease of use with massive multi-user scalability for the right price. I have already moved two large JSP applications into production at both GTE and Val-Pak. I usually develop on a Windows 95 machine and then move my code to a Sun server. The code has always run exactly the same. Go to Sun's site and check it out.
