Safari on Windows

In preparation for the iPhone (getting the crowd ready for Safari compatability because of the iPhone?, maybe?), comes new versions of Safari, including one for Windows. And I would like to note the full circle - 9-10 years ago when TotSP began, most of us used KDE. KDE spawned KHTML, which is the basis for WebKit, which is the basis for Safari, which is now becoming available on Windows. (UPDATE, I am told rather than iTunes as a base for WinSafari, as the Ars article speculates, it may be the recent work KDE and Adobe have done on porting KHTML.)

itunes != webkit :(

The iTunes store does not use webkit. Webkit wasn't available when the store first launched (I think it was about 9 months later). It uses a proprietary xml markup that is apparently very nasty and hard to work with. But it works. I've heard that they'd like to change it to webkit in the future and perhaps this is the first step towards doing that. For example, why can't I buy a new ipod from the music store. :)

Well, there you have it,

Well, there you have it, thanks Josh. I got the impression iTunes did have some WebKit, from the ars story: "Rumor has it that part of the iTunes display engine relies on WebKit, so it's possible that they simply leveraged whatever had been done there." Since that is not accurate, it seems even more likely that this is at least in part based on the porting KDE/Adobe has done.
