A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple system that worked...A complex system designed from scratch never works and cannot be patched up to make it work. You have to start over, beginning with a working simple system.
I have to give 1999 props, half the top grossing list in 99 is ridiculous (The Mummy?, there goes the 48%), but other stuff that was released that year is impressive. Being John Malcovich, October Sky, A Slipping Down Life, American Beauty, all excellent.
But 84 is just all hits, all the time (go on, use the voice when you say that). Ghostbusters, Gremlins, The Karate Kid, Footloose, Beverly Hills Cop, Bachelor Party, Police Academy, Sixteen Candles, Revenge of the Nerds . . . - it's like the USA network's programming for 10 years was all made in that single glorious 365 day period.
