I just want to note: I bought an Xbox to play Rock Band on. One of the games on Xbox Live Arcade is a BSG game. I downloaded the first level demo, and I just want to note Beyond the Red Line TOTALLY kicks its ass. Much like the BF1942 mod kicking the ass of most Star Wars games, I wonder what it means when the free games are better than the pay-for games.

Granted, there's a lot of dreadful commercial junk out there (particularly all the shovelware for the Wii), but let's go big picture: you've got two examples of free games, versus how many pay-for games you've spent how much time on? Is BTRL really going to replace Portal or WoW for you?
Yay, amateurs, and all, and yay XBL giving them a distribution channel, but let's not overstate things, eh?
I thought this post was going
I thought this post was going to be about Larry David, now I'm a bit bummed. ;)
Well, lets look at portal.
Well, lets look at portal. That is, aside from being from Valve, an indy game. There is what 90 minutes of play there? WoW is, and I said this earlier, derivative but well produced. It is the prime example of big-budget gaming. My point is that the Open Source games are now way better than the pay-for games of license. The Star Wars BF1942 mod was as good or better than most licensed SW games. BTRL is better than the "Real" BSG game.
I think it is particularly fascinating when Fan-Based content is better than Vivendi/Universal or LucasArts can put out on their own.
