Bob Barr will make a great Libertarian candidate, except for . . .

well, except for Bob Barr himself and everything about him.

You mean the same Barr that tried to ban Wiccans from the military, the same Barr that spewed on and on in favor of the "drug war," the same Barr that has been an ardent anti abortion nut his entire life, and the same Barr that is now in his third marriage despite sponsoring the "Defense of Marriage Act" and dribbling nonsense about the "sanctity" of marriage on and on?

I consider myself to be a Libertarian, and I know in the last few years Barr has joined the ACLU, and pretended to grow some balls, etc - but this is still a guy that has no real clue what freedom is - and who voted for the PATRIOT Act, etc - this is no Libertarian - and there is no way in hell I would vote for him (though I have voted Libertarian in a Presidential election before).

Trying to recycle Bob Barr as a Libertarian, pshaaaw, no thanks.

Awful!

Since 1988, I've voted Libertarian in every Presidential election, but there's no way I'm voting for Barr, for the reasons you cite. He spammed various libertarian lists when he launched his campaign, with an absurd revisionist history saying, among other things, that the reason he authored the Defense of Marriage Act was to "short circuit" GOP attempts to federalize the definition of marriage. Oh, and now he had second thoughts about the PATRIOT Act, but didn't apologize for voting for it, or vow to repeal it.

He may get a lot of votes from disaffected Republicans, an anti-McCain protest vote from Huckabee hardcores, but the Libertarian party is for people who value freedom, and not for disaffected Republicans.

As I wrote on Facebook: "So the Libertarians have nominated freedom-hating GOP cast-off Bob Barr, John McBush is vowing a 100-year occupation of Iraq, and the Democrats still can't pick between their two tax-happy, spendthrift candidates. I think I'm going to sit out this election, thanks."

You gotta love a candidate

You gotta love a candidate who's platform is "Vote for Me for President! I will undo everything I did while I was in congress!"
